Psalm 27 – Study

I’ll study at his feet.

The secret to fruitful study is to tap into the best source for the subject we seek to know more about. A good specialised school will be far more beneficial than  a simple or broad spectrum teaching. Many Bible schools teaching is so simple and shallow that you must wonder why people bother. It leaves people often with a warped or one sided view, based on man’s teaching or interpretation. Take for example those that teach the rapture but the student has no understanding of escatology at all. People are adamant that they have the only truth because one man has said so but themselves have no Biblical reference for their point of view. It leaves scriptures unread and undealt with, making their teachings questionable, even when correct.

For the Christian this should never actually be the case. Because we live in the presence of Jesus we are able to go directly to the impecable source. If we truly desire to know Him, then all it takes is to sit at His feet and study Him.

Listen to His Words. Reading and hearing God’s Word is the begining of all knowledge of God. Simply studying the book and other material will give us a theoretical knowledge but as we sit at His feet, listening to the words coming out of His own mouth, we hear them instruct us, build us up, correct us. God speaks them to us personally. A huge mistake many make today is that they sit at the feet of a man, listen to his words and receive everything he says. God will use preachers, teachers and other methods to help us but be sure to be sitting at the feet of Jesus all the time.

Study Him. Sitting at the feet of Jesus gives us a real close up look at Him. Gazing on His beauty allows us to learn so much about Him. We see His faithfulness. Sitting at His feet makes us able to see every move He makes, makes you aware of Him faithfully carrying out His promises, both for you and others. We learn His heart. Watching Jesus from close up you see how is love is directed to you, to His church and to the lost. Looking into His eyes lets you see how He looks and what He sees.

Learn His life. Just as a baby learns how to live by watching others so we learn how to live the Christ life by studying Jesus. Again it is because we are in His presence, sitting at His feet, desiring to be like Him that we can watch every move He made historically being repeated even now. The unchanging God dealing with His people as He always did. We can learn to imitate Christ

Let Him influence your advancement. It is of course only the Holy Spirit that makes the presence of God manifest in our lives. It is in the Spirit that we sit at His feet. It is the Spirit that brings the words of God to life and leads us to the truth in them. It is the Spirit that reveals Him to us and it is His Spirit that empowers us. Study His Spirit that you might know you have the same Spirit.

All this and so much more just by spending time at His feet.
