Psalm 11 – You must be joking

the evil bows are bent, the wicked arrows Aimed to shoot under cover of darkness at every heart open to God.

You want to to do what? Step out from where I am? Go with you?

Two of the most deadly things that can manifest in the Christian life are ignorance and arrogance. Both of these take the focus off the glory of God and cause us to look away, to look to men and ourselves.

The Bible teaches us that God’s people perish because of a lack of knowledge. Not knowing who God is. Not knowing who you are in Him. Not knowing His promises. Denying His power and the anointing of His presence. Not knowing your value to God and your position in the Kingdom. Being ignorant of the riches of His Word and the reality of His Spirit. These are the reasons men look away and look at the call of the world.

When the world presents its arguments and man falls for them it is only out of ignorance. No man who knows God could think that call greater.

Ignorance is the only way man can fall for lies. When one knows the truth you can easily spot the lie. Wisdom and knowledge quickly teach us that all the calls to run to the mountains are nothing more than schemes, based on lies, designed to lure the unsuspecting believer from the arms of God.

Ignorance ignores the trap.

And then arrogance. The puffed up opinion of yourself. Again based on the lies of the enemy that make you feel so powerful, so privileged, so the main man, that you simply forget your dependence on God.The lie that you can do and have and go and be what ever you want. Take your inheritance. You deserve what is yours. It is done if you say so. You can by faith and believing in yourself. It’s all about you. These lies are such beautiful things that make you so edified, so built up that you don’t know how puffed up you are. James warns us of this and suggests that we have then forgotten God.

Arrogance denounces the trap.

You can ignore the trap or denounce the trap. You can minimise it or walk right over it, the trap is there. If you can be lured away from your dependency of God, if you can be fooled into following the call, if you can be encouraged to step out on your own, know this – the enemy has got you in his sights and is ready to spring into action.

But for the those walking in the Word of God. Dwelling in His Holy presence. Filled with His Spirit. The humble are so aware of God and their place in Him that they look out at the crowds calling them and laugh.

You want me to do what? You must be joking
